Who am I?

My name is Sergio Sykes and I build skeletons and scripts. Contrary to starting a blog, I’m a man of few words so I’ll keep it brief.
I’m a technical artist over at Massive Black and enjoying myself quite a bit there. I’m mainly responsible for all the rigging and character setup projects that trickle our way. I’m mostly a Maya guy, but I’ve branched out to Softimage|XSI and 3ds Max as well (still figuring out Blender, though). Being a programmer in the past, I also do some scripting in the aforementioned packages as well.
I grew up in the inner city of Baltimore, MD. I went to a local community college briefly before moving out to San Francisco to attend The Art Institute of California – San Francisco. I studied programming at first, but once I discovered the field of character setup, it was love at first site. After taking a couple of introductory courses, I spent the rest of my free time studying the tools and masters of the trade. Even after graduating and landing a job, I continue to seek better ways to do and enjoy setting up various creatures.
I can’t necessarily say I was born to do rigging, but I loved gaming since day one. Eventually, I found ways to make my habit constructive. I started becoming pretty good at select titles (fighters in particular), and kept track on any trends or major releases. Throughout high school I was the go-to guy for what games to buy, avoid, or keep as a potential collector’s item.
